تساعد سكراتش النشء على تعلُّم التفكير الإبداعي والاستدلال المنهجي والعمل التعاوني، وكلها مهارات هامة للحياة في القرن الحادي والعشرين.
سكراتش هي أحد مشاريع مجموعة Lifelong Kindergarten في الميديالاب في جامعة ماستشوستس للتكنولوجيا MIT، وهي متوفرة مجانًا.
صُمِّمت سكراتش خصيصًا للأعمار بين 8 و 16 عامًا، ولكنها تستخدم من قبل أشخاص من الأعمار كلها. ملايين الناس ينشئون مشاريع سكراتش في أُطر واسعة التنوع، منها المنزل والمدرسة والمتحف والمكتبة العامة ومركز الأنشطة في الحي. تُستَخدم سكراتش في أكثر من 150 بلدًا مختلفًا وهي متوفرة بأكثر من 40 لغةً".

Scratch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. It is provided free of charge. Scratch is designed especially for ages 8 to 16, but is used by people of all ages. Scratch is used in more than 150 different countries and available in more than 40 languages.
